- 5th Essentials of Fire Fighting Manual - Since the 1st edition of Essentials of Fire Fighting was released in 1978, more than 2 million firefighters have been trained by this manual. That is why this manual is commonly referred to as “the Bible” on basic firefighter skills, and its information is commonly accepted as the standard for fire fighting knowledge and skills in North America and beyond. This 5th edition represents a complete revision of this text to include the latest information on safe and proper basic fire fighting techniques. This manual includes all of the information needed to meet the fire fighting requirements for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, (2008 edition), Fire Fighter Levels I and II. All photographs and illustrations are in full-color. This manual includes key terms, definitions, and other important features located throughout each chapter. Case histories are used to illustrate the concepts of each chapter. Skill sheets are included to cover psychomotor learning objectives. Review questions are given at the end of each chapter. - 5th Essentials of Fire Fighting Study Guide (print) - the questions contained in this study guide are intended to help students check their own learning progress as they read the book and advance through it or a training course. Questions are provided in a multiple-choice format because it is the most common type of question format used in fire service testing processes. The heavy-duty wire binding allows the study guide to lay flat.The questions in each chapter are separated into Fire Fighter I and II sections so that students can focus on the level they are currently pursuing. The questions also reference the page where the relevant information may be found in the main manuals. The answers are listed in the back of the manual according to chapter and level.
- 5th Essentials of Fire Fighting Study Guide (CD-ROM) - all of the questions are multiple choice and arranged by chapter. The student can specify the number of questions and the range of pages in the manual from which the study questions are chosen. Each time the student uses the program, the questions appear in random order. The student receives immediate feedback as to whether each question was answered correctly or incorrectly. If answered incorrectly, the student is given the page number where the information appears in the manual so that he/she can review the material. When the student completes the questions, the percent of correct answers is reported. The student can print a study sheet to help review topics that need further study.
- 5th Essentials of Fire Fighting Skills Handbook - this new addition to the Essentials product line is a sturdy, wire-bound handbook containing all of the skill sheets found in both the Essentials of Fire Fighting (5th edition) manual and the Essentials of Fire Fighting and Fire Department Operations (5th edition) manual. The skills sheets in the handbook provide more detail and are more heavily illustrated than those in the manuals. It is intended to serve as a supplemental quick reference for students as well as a valuable instructor resource tool. Instructors will find this handbook helpful in referencing particular skills while performing evolutions on the training ground. It is also helpful as a reference tool for test evaluators to ensure that the evolutions are being performed correctly. If there are any questions as to the appropriateness of a technique being used, the instructor can open the handbook to the correct skill sheet and review it with the student right there in the field. The sturdy design and wire binding allow it to lay flat on any object in the field.
